Scissors Sharpening
Stationery · Easy
Folding paper instead of cutting it means dulled edges or a loosened pivot. Most household scissors are sharpened, not replaced.
Replacement cost
$5–$25
Typical lifespan
5 yrs
Maintenance
every 6 months
Tools you may need
- Sharpening stone or sandpaper (150-200 grit)
- Screwdriver
- Light oil
Steps
- Tighten the pivot screw until blades drag slightly.
- Cut through folded sandpaper 10-15 strokes to hone the edges.
- For serious dulling, sharpen the bevel on a stone at the factory angle.
- Wipe blades with oiled cloth and test-cut paper.
Maintenance
Hone on sandpaper twice a year; never cut paper with fabric scissors. (Suggested interval: every 6 months.)
