Carries roof runoff away from the foundation. Splash blocks and buried flex extenders both work; the goal is 4+ ft of discharge distance.

Tools you may need

• Screwdriver
• Spade (for shallow trenching)

Steps

1. 1Measure the downspout outlet size (standard 2x3 or 3x4 in).
2. 2Screw or press the extender onto the outlet.
3. 3Trench a shallow descending path for buried flex styles.
4. 4Test with a hose: water must exit well away from the foundation.

Maintenance

Clear leaves from the outlet every fall; check discharge path after heavy storms. (Suggested interval: every 6 months.)
