Chandelier Chain & Crystal Prisms

Suspension chain, canopy kits, and the hanging crystal prisms that give chandeliers their sparkle. Missing crystals are the most visible defect in any dining room.

Tools you may need

• Stepladder
• Needle-nose pliers
• Work gloves

Steps

1. 1Kill the fixture's breaker before touching any metal part.
2. 2Add chain with linking pliers — never twist links open by hand; the temper cracks.
3. 3Hook replacement prisms onto their pins or slots, working top-down around the frame.
4. 4Restore power and inspect each prism hangs plumb; nudge the frame level at the canopy.

Maintenance

Dust prisms with a dry microfiber mitt; check chain links and prism pins twice a year. (Suggested interval: every 6 months.)
